Full Day Intro to Dog Sledding Package

Looking for a more hands-on experience?

Join us on the runners and learn to mush a Dog Sled team!
This Full Day Experience is broken into Two Sessions with a break for lunch in between.
Session One – Guests experience the thrill of our advanced private trails from the sled’s basket.
Session Two – A traditional wooden ‘Double Driver’ Sled allows Guests to take control from the back of the sled runners with their Guide at their side!

9:00 am – Check in and say hi to the Pack!

Your Adventure starts with an inside look at the life of a sled dog! Tour our micro kennel, where you’ll meet members of our Sled Dog Family, see what their home life is like, and learn about their history, routines, and the deep bond they share with their Mushers.

9:30 am – Meet your Guide and your Dog Sled Team

Your Musher will introduce you to your Team of Dogs and show you the proper way to gear up, handle, and harness them.
Session One is devoted to introducing Guests to the Dog Sledding experience and shows them what to expect while on the trails without the pressure of handling a sled.
Learn your mushing commands, how to navigate your team, how to read their body language, Fine details needed to run a team in Session Two of your day.

10:30 am – Return to home base and learn about post sledding care

Once back, help your Guide handle your team and provide post-run care for the dogs. Hydration and health checks are a priority for happy, healthy sled dogs!

11:30 pm – One Hour Break for Lunch

Take time to recharge and warm up in your own private yurt for Lunch! Choose from of our homemade, artisanal soups and sandwiches!
(Included in your package). After ward feel free to browse the Gift shop and enjoy complimentary coffee, cocoa, and tea. More sled dogs will be waiting inside to say Hi!

12:30 pm – Learn how to Load and safely transport your Team

For Session Two and hands on Training on the sled, Guests will load their Team and Embark for one of our Handpicked Destinations offering smooth trails perfect for Novice Dog Sledders to learn and hone their skills. (Please note this portion of your Day is off-site and may vary depending upon snow conditions)

1:00 pm – Prep your team for their run and utilize the knowledge learned in your first lesson

Navigate beginner level trails with your Guide on a Traditional Wooden Double Driver Sled. For the safety of our Guests and the sled dogs we utilize these sleds so your Guide can assist in controlling and stopping the sled should it be required – Much like a driver’s ed car! Enjoy hands-on learning as you soak in Maine’s wild beauty.

3:00 pm – Post Sled Care and Return

Ensure your team’s health and happiness with post-run care, hydration and well-earned praise! Then load up your gear and Dog Team for the ride back to home base.

3:30 pm – End of Day

Get in as many pets and hugs as you like from the dogs, and walk away with the knowledge and experience needed to call yourself a Musher!
